Nathaniel James “Ta’l” Chiangi. 80 passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 , at Palmetto Health Baptist.
Born on February 28, 1930 , in Norwich , CT , he was a son of the late Frank and Jenny Favola Chiangi, Sr. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran and served on the Minesweeper USS Tercel during the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge from the U. S. Navy, Tal worked at the General Dynamics Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton , CT installing the sonar for the USS Nautilus (SSN 571), the world’s first nuclear powered submarine. At the tim e of his retirement from CP&L in Raleigh, NC, Tal was a QA Manager at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant in Apex, NC.
Tal was a devoted North Carolina Tarheel fan. Tal also enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing but his fondest memories were of many, many wonderful golf outings with family and friends at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, NC (his favorite course where he was a member for several years), The Country Club of Newberry where he made many friends in and out of golf, and numerous other courses throughout SC and the U. S. Tal was a member of The Ridge Senior Couples and the SC Midlands Seniors until 2005 when he was forced to give up golf due to emphysema.
Tal was a generous, tender-hearted person which may be surprising to people who experienced the fiery side of his great personality. He loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was well-liked by many and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Tal is survived by his loving and caring Beloved, Dale Bundrick, son, Tom (Miyoung) Chiangi of Ken nesaw, GA, daughter, Darla Munn of Wilmington, NC, brother, Danny Chiangi, of Norwich, CT, sisters-in law, Barbara Chiangi of Norwich, CT, and Maria “May’ Chiangi of Plainfield, CT, aunt, Mary Chiangi of Norwich, CT, uncle, John (Helen) Chiangi of Norwich, CT, eleven grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and sons, Mark Chiangi and David Chiangi of Las Vegas, Nevada. Tal was predeceased by brothers Frank, Jr. and Al Chiangi, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Chiangi. Tal was eagerly greeted in Heaven with smiles and wet kisses from his loving, devoted Boston Terriers Molly and Morgan who had given him many hours of unconditional love and happiness.
Although no visitation or service will be held at this tim e, friends and family will gather at a later date to share in a celebration of Tal’s very colorful life.
