Norma Anelle Parsons McCants, 91, of Newberry, widow of Leon E. McCants, Sr., died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at White Oak Manor.

Born on May 3, 1924, in Andrews, she was a daughter of the late Claude Montague and Florance Ruby Swails Parsons. She was a graduate of Winyan High School and attended McCloud Nursing School. Mrs. McCants was a member of First Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Kyria Sunday School Class and the Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group until her health declined.

She is survived by a son, Leon E. McCants, Jr. of Newberry; daughters, Diane M. Burkholder of Fort Mill, Sheryl M. Tepper (Robert)of Simpsonville and Deborah M. Wicker (Kenneth) of Newberry; a brother, Steven Parsons of Richmond, VA ; a sister, Marjorie Lambert of Pine Bluff, AR; nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. McCants was predeceased by a brother, Milton Parsons and a son-in-law, Gary Buckholder.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen and Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 807 Caldwell Street, Newberry, SC or to Hospice Care of Tri County, 13795 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108.
