Dewey Olin Glymph, 85, of Newberry, died Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on February 16, 1938, in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Dewey McLaurin and Ollie Mae Dehihns Glymph. Mr. Glymph was a Navy Veteran and worked at V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant as a heavy equipment operator. He was told many times that he was the only real operator that they had because he could operate and do any job they needed done. He was a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Newberry Shrine Club and the Newberry Masonic Lodge # 87 AFM. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and of course that is Harley’s. He enjoyed mowing grass and driving his backhoe. His greatest pleasure was being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Glymph is survived by his wife, Barbara Sligh Glymph; sons, Gregg (Vivian) Glymph and Todd (Veronica) Glymph both of Newberry; a sister, Reba Goldsmith of Greenville; grandchildren, Crystal (Justin) Dickert, Jamie (Didi) Glymph and Ashley (Danielle) Glymph and great-grandchildren, Gabe Glymph, Kiyah Glymph, Charlie Dickert and Andrew Dickert.
He was predeceased by a sister, Nannie Roberts and brothers, Grady Glymph and Mack Glymph.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Monday, April 24, 2023, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Morris. Military and Masonic Rites will be rendered during the service. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605 or to the Newberry Masonic Lodge # 87 AFM, 1304 Caldwell Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
