Olivia Ellisor Snipes, 88, of Newberry, widow of Hubert Snipes, died Friday, December 11, 2015, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 9, 1927, in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late William T. “Bill” and Rosa Moates Ellisor. She operated Mama Snipes Day Care. Mrs. Snipes was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where she served on the hostess committee for 47 years, was a former GA and youth choir leader.
She is survived by a son, William Terry (Susan) Snipes of Swansea; a daughter, Marsha (James) Amick of Lexington; a brother, Talmadge Ellisor of Newberry; grandchildren, Haley Corley, Jennifer Cartwright, Corey Amick and Kelly Bullard; five step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Wayne Ellisor and two nieces. Mrs. Snipes was predeceased by a great-grandson, Miles Cartwright, Teresa Maybank her employee and faithful companion for over 40 years, sister-in-law, Irene Ellisor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 14, 2015, at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides and the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Robbie Bachelder, Keith Bachelder, Chad Stevens, Matt Bowers, Ben Bowers, Timothy Ringer, Jeff Martin and Wayne Ellisor.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of the former “Mama Snipes” Kids, members of the Reapers Sunday School Class, Judy Jones, Punk Beck, Frances Mack, Carlene Ridgell, Peggy Marlowe, Murroll Brown, Leonard Brown, Elizabeth Hayes, Eddie Taylor, Kenny Floyd, Carolyn Lancaster, Hollis Johnson and Pete Simpson.
