Opal Jean Kelly, age 93, of Prosperity, South Carolina, died on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at her home. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on November 17, 1922 to Cora May and Edward Fowler.
Opal was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church in Newberry, South Carolina where she was a member of the choir. Opal was also a member of RSVP, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, which visits nursing homes and assisted living centers to sing songs to the people there.
Opal was married to Harold W. Kelly on July 30, 1941 at the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle. They were married for 54 years when Harold died in 1996.
Opal is survived by a son, Donald Kelly and his wife, Rebecca of San Diego, California; a special friend, Bob Stansberry; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Sherry Sharp, predeceased her in 2010.
Abbey Road Hospice assisted Opal's granddaughter Jennifer with her care during her last days.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Her casket will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon and the family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, South Carolina 29108.
