Oscar Wheeler Bowers, 90, of Prosperity, died Friday, November 6, 2015, at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born on July 24, 1925, in Newberry County, he was a son of the late George Andrew and Nancy Jane Cook Bowers. He was a World War II Marine veteran having served in Hiroshima, Japan and was retired from Bowers 66. Mr. Bowers was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and the Gathering Class Sunday School Class. He was a former Prosperity City Councilman and former member of the Prosperity Rescue and Fire Departments.

Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Marian Sligh Bowers; sons, Douglas A. (Cleo) Bowers, Mark (Karen)Bowers and George D. (Tina) Bowers all of Prosperity; a daughter, Amy M. Bowers of Prosperity; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, November 9, 2015, at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Taylor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church family life center. Memorials may be made to the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home Ward 605, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Chapman, David Bowers, Bryan Bowers, Jamey Bowers, Tommy Zobel, Johnny Sligh and Perry Zobel.
