Ossian Rutherford Higgins, 93, of Newberry, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at White Oak Manor.
Born on September 12, 1921, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Ralph Grady and Mary Estelle Dickert Higgins. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Mr. Higgins was the retired owner of Higgins Appliance Service. He was a life member of the Amity Lodge #87 AFM where he was a member for over 60 years and a member of the Hejaz Shriners for over 40 years.
Mr. Higgins is survived by a brother, George Sherrill Higgins; step-sons, Derrill (Debra) Taylor and Bobby Joe (Wanda) Taylor; a sister-in-law, Julia Higgins; a special sister-in-law and caregiver, Mozelle Werts (Marvin) Stanley and four grandchildren. Mr. Higgins was twice married, first to the late Doris Cromer Higgins and secondly, to the late Edna McKinney Taylor Higgins. He was also predeceased by a brother, Ralph Grady Higgins, Jr. and a sister, Carolyn Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 2, 2015, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Jason Schafer. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Clamp, Curtis Lever, Butch Price, John Smith, and Joey Werts.
