James Otto Morris, 83, of Newberry, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born on September 17, 1932, in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Pinckney Otto and Ruth Evelyn Sligh Morris. He was retired after 20 years of service from the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Marvoureen Farmer Morris; daughters, Kay M. Harmon and Sandra M. Tucker, both of Newberry; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Motes Morris; grandchildren, Heather Harmon Colberg and Matthew D. Harmon; seven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, James Timothy Morris, and a sister, Betty Morris Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 6, 2016, at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home, 1330 Kinard Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Pete Simpson, Mitchell Ruff, Jimmie Harmon, John Tucker, Matt Harmon and Del Kibler.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fisher's of Men Sunday School Class and Deacons of Glenn Street Baptist Church, staff of Tri-County Hospice and the staff, nurses and CNA's of Unit 3 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
