Paul Edward Shealy of Prosperity passed away at Newberry County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 17, 2012 with complications with pneumonia.

Born on January 4, 1921 in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Ethon Jacob and Alice Elise Richardson Shealy. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pomaria, where he was the oldest man in the congregation.

Paul served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas as a Control Room Operator at McMeekin Station. He was a member of Hejaz Shrine Club and Prosperity Masonic Lodge # 115.

Known for his love of family, gardening, hard work ethic, hunting, and wit, Paul will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vera Kinard Shealy; a son, Stanley (Suzanne) Edward Shealy; two granddaughters, Steffanie (Michael) Shealy Shinn and Julie (Toby) Shealy Smith; great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Jordan Shinn, and Emma, Rachel, Rhett and Grant Smith; two sisters, Louise Shealy Lindler and Nelva Shealy Lindler; a niece, Pamela Lindler DeHart, and former daughter-in-law, Judy Sebesta, all from Prosperity. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Ethon Shealy, and a sister, Alice Elizabeth “Lib” Shealy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00- 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church for Upkeep and Beautification of the Grounds, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Active pallbearers will be Brett Taylor, Michael Taylor, Kenny Richardson, Robin Chandler, Eddie Koon and Joe Hamrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Epting, Kevin Boozer, Walter E. Koon, Linwood Richardson and member of the Pomaria Rescue Squad.
