Peggy Marshall Keim, 87, of Newberry, South Carolina and longtime resident of Cartersville, Georgia, died September 29, 2011, at Jessie Frank Hawkins Nursing Home, Newberry, South Carolina. Peggy was born in Wapella, Illinois on December 4, 1923, to the late Mary Ellen Derr Marshall and Frederick Lewis Marshall.

Peggy was a graduate of Illinois State University; taught Physical Education and Driver’s Education. She was a loving daughter and sister, beloved wife and daughter-in-law, and dedicated mother and grandmother. Peggy was a dancer, singer, world traveler, bridge player; loved smiling, arranging flowers, putting on her lipstick and jewelry every morning, and planning family get-togethers.

Her community service included being a member of the American Association of Mining Engineers (AAME) where she planned many national conventions, Life Member of the Easter Star, American Association of University Women, 1996 Olympic Committee in Cartersville, and local Mineral Museum where she volunteered. Peggy was a member of Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church and active in its United Methodist Women.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband, John T. Keim, their son, Patrik Keim, and her sisters, Ellen Marshall Beavers and Louis Marshall Jones. She is survived by her children, Nicki Arthur and her husband, Gary, of Findlay, Illinois and Michael F. Keim and his wife, Kathy of Newberry, South Carolina; grandchildren: Shane peace of Ithaca, New York; Brett Peace of New York City, New York, Kristin Keim of Pleasant Hill, California and Candice Keim of Newberry, South Carolina and her sisters children.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Memory of Peggy M. Keim to the University of Georgia Foundation for the Patrik T. Keim Memorial Award (please attach in memory of Peggy M. Keim) address: 394 South Milledge Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30602.

A memorial service will be held in Newberry on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at 3 pm by Rev. Karen Radcliffe at the J.F. Hawkins Chapel, 1330 Kinard Street, Newberry, South Carolina 29108. The family will receive visitors after the service. The family will then have a service in Clinton, Illinois on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
