Perrow “Perry” Willis, 88, of Newberry, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at White Oak Manor.
Born on October 30, 1926, in Amhurst County, VA, a son of the late Homer and Dora Hicks Willis. He was a World War II Army veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Willis was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where he was an active deacon, member of the choir, and the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class. He was a Gideon, a former member of the Lions Club and a past fire chief for the Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Maryland.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Hope Fortner Willis; sons, Michael (Julie) Willis and David (Elizabeth) Willis both of Bluffton, SC, Paul Willis of Little River, SC and Joel (Connie) Willis of La Plata, MD; daughters, Janet (Bud) Fletcher and Judith (Chuck) Boswell both of Mechanicsville, MD; a sister, Brightsie Stoud of Simpsonville; brothers, Parker Willis of Baltimore, MD, Emmett Willis of Glen Burnie, MD and Bennie Willis of Severna Park, MD; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 2, 2015, at Glenn Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class.
