Philip Dowd

Charles Philip Dowd, Sr., 74, of Newberry, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.

Born on December 15, 1938, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late Lonnie B. and Lillie M. Koon Dowd. He was a Navy veteran and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was retired from G.M. Reuter Trucking.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis Wicker Dowd; a son, Charles Philip Dowd, Jr. of Laurens; a daughter, Teka (Murno) Lucario of Charleston; a step-son, Danny (Susan) Hendrix of Newberry; a step-daughters, Debbie (John) Carlton of Newberry and Teresa Goff of Greenwood; a brother, Henry (Dorothy) Dowd of Gastonia, NC; seventeen grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Sonny Dowd.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, May 17, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Brent Nichols and the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00- 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Casey Hendrix, Brandon Hendrix, Will Hendrix, Jonathon Richardson, John Thomas Carlton and Hank Dowd.
