Olin Ray Alewine, 85, of Whitmire, died Monday, January 4, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland.
Born on May 26, 1935, in Little Mountain, he was a son of the late Boyce Stoudemire and Bessie Haltiwanger Alewine. He served in the US Army from 1957-1960 and retired in 1988 from the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Following his retirement he drove a bus for the Whitmire area schools for over 25 years. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Mountain.
Throughout the years, Ray enjoyed many hobbies such riding his bicycle, rabbit hunting and vegetable gardening, to name just a few. He always loved country music and learned to play the guitar by ear. With other family and friends, Ray entertained many people at family, community and church events.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Brock Alewine; a daughter, Julie (Hayden) Haltiwanger; grandchildren, Travis Haltiwanger and Emily Haltiwanger. He was predeceased by siblings, Carroll Alewine, H.B. Alewine, Claude Alewine, Homer Alewine, Cecil Alewine, Frank Alewine, Evelyn Harmon, Martha Ringer and Jessie Roberta Alewine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brett Collins. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 am Thursday in the Trinity Life Center at the church. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, PO Box 186, Little Mountain, SC 29075.
