Albert Ray Franklin, 90, of Newberry, died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Springfield Place.

He was born on October 4, 1927, in Newberry, a son of the late Albert Sidney and Iola Oxner Franklin. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Antietam. Mr. Franklin was retired from American Fiber and Finishing Plant, Kendell Company after 43 ½ years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he was a former member of the Lutheran Men in Mission. He loved gardening, fishing and playing music.

Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife, Hazel Meadows Franklin; a son, Russell Ray (Cecilia) Franklin of Newberry; a granddaughter, Missy Franklin and her husband, Shannon and a great-grandson, Landen Franklin York. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rosa Lee Counts, Ruth Bouknight, Earl Franklin and his twin, Roy Franklin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Bethany Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemtery. Visitation will be from 12:45 – 1:45 pm Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 2704 Nance Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Russell Franklin, Landen York, Shannon York, Brian Bishop, Leonard Finley and Ray Alewine.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Long, Mike Long, Danny Rawl, Demp Fellers, Clyde Suber, Steve Price, Raymond Morris, and Richard Sligh
