Joseph Raymond “Ray” Hunter, Jr., 91, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at his residence.
Born on November 2, 1922, in the Stoney Hill section of Newberry County, he was a son of the late Joseph Raymond Hunter, Sr. and Sue Lester Hunter. Mr. Hunter was a woods craftsman. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Lutheran Men. He was an Army Air Force veteran, a member of the American Legion Post #24 for 66 years and the Forty & Eight.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Shealy Hunter; a daughter, Sheila (Ken) Jones of Columbia; a sister, Suzette (Darr) Frick of Chapin. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Hunter, a sister, Juanita Long and a brother, Lester Hunter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 17, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. David Seymour. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Active pallbearers will be James Long, Ashley Frick, Malcom Vaughn, Tim Harmon, Emmett Wicker, and Craig Farr.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Grace Sease Sunday School Class.
