Redick Truesdell Gaskin, 78, of Newberry, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on August 29, 1932, in McBee, he was a son of the late Hugh Boyd and Sally Viola Stevens Gaskin. Mr. Gaskin was a former resident of Clinton and Lake Murray. He had worked at Joanna Cotton Mill and Whitten Center. He was a member of Newberry Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Over 55 Group. Mr. Gaskin was a member of Masonic Lodge #87 AFM and the Newberry Order of the Eastern Star where he was the Worthy Patron. He was a member of the Hejaz Shriner’s, the Newberry Shrine Club and the Hillbilly Clan #2. He was a member of the Gold Wing Club and his Neighborhood Supper Club.

Mr. Gaskin is survived by his wife, Doris M. Singley; a daughter, Sally Elizabeth (Tommy) Evans of Gray Court; a son, Randy William (Karen) Gaskin of Joanna; grandchildren, Kylee Burke, Chase Evans and Chad Gaskin; a brother, Robert L. Gaskin of Arizona; step-mother, Mattie P. Gaskin of Clinton; step-daughters, Mary (Tim) Carlisle of Newberry and Annette (Mark) Johnson of Boynton Beach, FL; step-grandchildren, Jessica and Elizabeth Camp and Joshua and Sarah Carlisle. Mr. Gaskin was predeceased by his first wife, Francis Willis Gaskin and a granddaughter, Amanda Gaskin.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Newberry A.R. Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mantle Nance. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton. Memorials may be made to Newberry Shrine Club, 196 Shrine Club Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

The family has not named any specific honorary pallbearers as they are honored by all that attend.
