Richard Lominick

James Richard Lominick, Jr. 85, of Newberry, widower of Glenda Wise Lominick, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. 

Born on August 24, 1939, in Newberry, he was the son of the late James Richard Lominick, Sr. and Mary Martha Hickson Lominick. He was proud of achieving the honor of Eagle Scout. He was a 1957 graduate of Newberry High School and a 1961 graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Sigma Nu. Richard served in the South Carolina National Guard. 

After graduation from college he returned home and worked along side his father at Lominick’s Drug Store from 1961 until it closed in 1996. He continued to serve the community following the closing of the family business at numerous pharmacies and lastly at Prosperity Drug Store. 

He was a lifelong member of the Newberry Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was a faithful servant for many years. He served in numerous roles including serving as Deacon and Elder. 

Richard was the happiest when he was with his family either at the lake or at the beach. His most favorite pastimes were fishing and gardening. He shared many of his fruits of his labor to family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his poker club buddies who still enjoy getting together. 

Richard finished his life journey on earth and is now reunited with the greatest love of his life, Glenda. His second greatest love was his grandchildren who he truly adored. 

He is survived by a daughter, Lynn Dilleshaw and her husband, Tony, of Greenwood; a son, James R. “Chip” Lominick III and wife, Sherry, of Chapin; a sister, Cindy Snell of Aiken; grandchildren, Kalli Lominick, Rick Dilleshaw and Alana Lominick and a special cousin, David Wilson who was like a brother. 

Richard was predeceased by sisters, Martha Rucker and Sara Looney. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Newberry Reformed Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Seth Yi and the Rev. Dr. Timothy Erskine. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. 

Memorials may be made to the Newberry Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1701 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Three Oaks Hospice, 101 West Park Boulevard, Suite B, Columbia, SC 29210. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 3 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home, Three Oaks Hospice and his caregivers, Patricia Coleman and Brenda Riddle for their loving care.

Active pallbearers will be Rick Dilleshaw, Jimmy Looney, Don Fulmer, Mark Orcutt, Michael B. Mills, Jay Berley, John Pugh and Mac Bartley.
