Robert John Shirey

Robert John Shirey, 35, of Prosperity, died Friday, September 18, 2015, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on August 13, 1980, in Newberry, he was a son of Randy Lee and Marlene Rauch Shirey. He graduated from the special needs class at Speers Street Elementary and participated in Special Olympics. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Every time you got a hug or kiss from Robert you could always feel his unconditional love.

Mr. Shirey is survived in addition to his parent by a brother, Justin Kyle Shirey of Prosperity; paternal grandparents, Margaret Gartman and Robert “Sonny” (Nancy) Shirey; aunts, Teresa (Glenn) Purvis and Crystal (Austin) Floyd; cousins, Glenn (Kelly) Purvis, Jr. and Gary (Candy) Purvis; a special friend who was like a grandmother, Vivian Hurley.

He was predeceased by maternal grandparents George Alexander Rauch and Mary Lou Hunt (Danny) Hutto; and by an uncle, Randall Ray Rauch.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:30 – 3:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Midlands Center, 8301 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203.

The family would like to thank the Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs, the doctors and nurses at Palmetto Health Richland ICU and also the Midlands Center for their love and care for Robert.
