Robert L. Mattison

Robert Lester “Big Bob” Mattison, 73, of Newberry died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Palmetto Health Baptist.

Born on December 6, 1940, in Galeton, PA, the son of the late LeRoy Wallace and Claira Mae Rudd Mattison. He was retired from Georgia Pacific. Mr. Mattison enjoyed woodworking and rebuilding motors. He loved his wife and grandchildren and never met a stranger and was always willing to help people in need. He enjoyed cooking for family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eva Mae Rewis Mattison; sons, Denis Mattison, Jene (Stephanie) Woods and Eddie (Deanne) Mattison; a daughter, Laurie (Bobby) Baker; 21 grandchildren who which three were raised in the home, Damine Woods, Ivy Woods, and Jasmine Woods and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Terry Lynn Craiger.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wako Cotney. The family will receive friends after the service at the home. Memorials may be made to the family for the care of their grandchildren.
