Roland Eugene Kibler

Roland Eugene Kibler, 88, of Pomaria, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at his home.

Born on January 26, 1935 in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Lillious Eugene and Stella Wicker Kibler.  He started his formal education at St. Philip’s School and graduated in 1953 from Irmo High School where he was involved in the school sports of football and basketball.  Mr. Kibler was an active member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.  He served on the Cemetery Committee, the Administrative Council and was a member of the United Methodist Men’s Club.

His working career consisted of 40 plus years in the telephone industry working with Southern Bell and BellSouth.  He was a member of the BellSouth Pioneer Retirees.

Mr. Kibler was passionate about farming, fishing and gardening. A man of the earth, he valued nature and its abundance.
However, above all else in life, he cherished spending time with his family. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he created numerous fond memories that will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jewell Josephine “Jo” Doolittle Kibler; children, Cindy Kibler, Russell (Francelle) Kibler and Sheila (Anthony) Pelton, all of Pomaria; grandchildren, Blake (Alexis) Kibler, Andrea (Marty) Dorroh, Aubrey Pelton, Dillon Pelton and Blair Pelton, and great-grandchildren, Landon Bayer, Stella Dorroh and Rhett Kibler.

Mr. Kibler was predeceased by a brother, William “Bill” Kibler, a sister, Bernice “Bea” Kibler Shealy and a grandson, Alex Kibler.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Webb Belangia, Rev. Darlene Kelley and Rev. DeVon Ruth. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service in the Reese Building.

Memorials may be made made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church or Mt. Pleasant Methodist Men’s Club, 2360 Mt. Pleasant Road, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Active pallbearers will be Blake Kibler, Dillon Pelton, Marty Dorroh, Jason Bedenbaugh, Logan Bedenbaugh, James Fuller, Robert Icard and John Doolittle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Doolittle, Travis Doolittle and members of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Men’s Club.
