Ronald Evans Bowers, 76, of Silverstreet, died June 25, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Newberry on August 15, 1941, he was a son of the late Pink Evans Bowers, Jr. and Gertrude Hamm Bowers. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of South Carolina. He was a retired Electrical Engineer in the defense industry where he worked at the Naval Shipyard in Newport News, VA, Carolina Eastman, and Hughes Aircraft which later became Raytheon. He was a former member of the Columbia Jaycees and was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church. Ron was an avid quail hunter and supporter of Quail Unlimited and always had a bird dog by his side. A member of the Gamecock Club since his college days, he spent many hours attending, watching and supporting all USC athletic activities.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Hembree Bowers; a son, Craig Bowers of West Columbia; a daughter, Suzanne Bowers (Rocky Cosmos) of West Columbia; and a grandson, Alexander Bowers. He was predeceased by brothers Charles E. Bowers and Steve A. Bowers.
Services will be conducted on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 3:00PM at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Harry Crout. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to invite friends and family to the church fellowship hall after the service for a time of fellowship and to share memories. Friends may also visit the family at the Silverstreet home Saturday, July 7. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC in Charleston, American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
