Gordon Ross “Red” McDonald, 74, of Newberry, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, at his residence.
Born on December 23, 1938, in Augusta, GA, he was a son of the late Clyde and Lilly Ross McDonald. He was the retired owner of Red's Welding and was a member of Cross Point Church.
Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife, Rita Flowers McDonald; daughters, Brenda (Dave) Wiley of Prosperity and Delores (Guerry) Mayer of Newberry; grandchildren, Brittany (Buddy) Horton, Nathan (Sloan) Mayer and Kaylee Mayer and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Horton. He was predeceased by a son, Mike McDonald and brothers, Paul McDonald and Jimmy McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made Cross Point Church c/o Wendy Gaines, 1523 Trent Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Brehmer, David Senn, Kenny Flowers, Ken Flowers, Curtis Watts, Larry Bryant, Aubrey White and Rick Long.
