Roy Albert Bannister, Sr., 83, of Little Mountain, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Providence Hospital.
Born in Newberry on July 26, 1934, he was a son of the late James William and Maude Lee Caldwell Bannister. He was a Korean War Army veteran and retired from SCE&G after twenty-five years. Mr. Bannister was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had been involved with the Lutheran Men in Missions. He was a member of the Wheeland Community Center.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clara Nell Metze Bannister; daughters, Joyce L. Bannister of Little Mountain, Debbie B. Metts of Newberry, Shelia J. Bannister of Little Mountain; sons, William H. (Gwen) Bannister of Blair and R. Albert (Iris) Bannister, Jr. of Pomaria; grandchildren, Jennifer (Stefan) Bookman, Vanessa Parker, Blake (Amber Cangialosi) Metts, John (Tiewana Cromer) Metts, Joshua (Emily Berrian) Bannister, Eric (Erin) Bannister, Benji Bannister, Nicholas Bannister, Zachary (Danielle) Bannister and Amber (Scott Gregory) Bannister; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Mr. Bannister was predeceased by a son, John C. Bannister and his siblings, Ralph Bannister, Milwood “Mid” Bannister, Harry Bannister, James Bannister and Frances B. Danielsen.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols and Rev. Randall Derrick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The family will be at 479 Hill Trace, Newberry, SC. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.
Active pallbearers will be Eric Bannister, Benji Bannister, Zachary Bannister, Nicholas Bannister, Joshua Bannister, Blake Metts, John Metts and Stefan Bookman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leitha Bundrick, Leah Huffstetler, Regina Dukes, Lallie Waites, Tommy Long, Barry Richardson, Wesley Boland, Chad Boland, Eddie Robinson, Stanley Shealy and Walter Martin.
