Roy Franklin

Elbert Roy Franklin, 85, of Newberry, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on October 4, 1927, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Albert Sidney and Rosa Iola Oxner Franklin. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a retired carpenter and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife, Elaine Shealy Franklin; a daughter, Cherrie Franklin Longshore of Newberry; his twin brother, Ray (Hazel) Franklin of Newberry; grandchildren, Austin Michael (Kristian) Longshore and Janna Lane Longshore.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 12, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 2704 Nance Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Russell Franklin, Brian Bishop, Austin Longshore, Mike Longshore, Jamie Boozer, Clint Shealy, Levi Cumalander and Joshua Cumalander.
