Ruby Maude Sterling Summer, 92, of Newberry, widow of Claude Pinkney Summer, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at her residence.
Born on April 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Richard Lee and Martha Elizabeth “Mattie” Halfacre Sterling. Mrs. Summer graduated from Newberry College and formerly worked for the Newberry County Magistrates Office and Newberry Sheriff's Office and she retired from Whitten Center. She was a member of The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry and a member of the S.C. State Employees Association.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Moore Summer Bursinger of Newberry and a granddaughter, Julianne Bursinger. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Summer Bursinger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 26, 2017, at The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry by the Rev. Dr. Tim Erskine. Entombment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of food or flowers memorials may be made to the Halfacre Cemetery Association c/o Ron Halfacre, 1810 Harper Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Manna House c/o Sue Mitchell, 2210 Timber Lane, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Clyde Brown, Nick Davenport, Jerry Davenport, Gene Wicker, Dell Rowe and David Halfacre.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joyce Bonds Scott, Celia Dodgen, Pam Pitts, Jeanette Boozer, Mary Sease Hanna, Carolyn Parsons, Lourene Bates and Elizabeth Adams.
