Ruth C. Hipp

Ruth Caldwell Hipp Jones, 99, of Newberry, died Saturday, October 22, 2016, at her residence.

Born on January 2, 1917, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late James and Dollie Adams Caldwell. She was a graduate of Newberry College and a Golden Sister member of the Alpha Delta Kappa. Mrs. Hippp retired after 44 years as an educator with the Newberry County School System. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a former choir director.

She is survived by daughters, Alfreida Hipp Brigman Irish and Shirley Hipp Bowers; caregivers, Nancy Trapp and Brenda Floyd; seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by siblings, Bernice Mack, Helen Parnell, Vera Singley, , Ora Thompson Perschau, Maude Bannister, Albert Caldwell, Roy Caldwell and James Caldwell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2016, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon and Rev. Ron Lambrose. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church.
