Ruth Derrick

Ruth Hunnicutt Derrick, 79, of Newberry, widow of Noah Derrick, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at her home.

Born on September 7, 1935, in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Harold Edward “Jack” Hunnicutt and Beatrice Rhodes Hunnicutt. She was retired from American Fiber and Finishing, Oakland Plant and was a member of Cross Point Church.

Mrs. Derrick is survived by her daughters, Debra (Jimmy) Monts and Rose (Chuck) Meadows both of Newberry and Cathy (Frankie) Shealy of Pomaria; grandchildren, Jamie (Christina) Monts, Crystal Shealy, Robbie (Alaina) Monts, and Brandon (Natalie) Shealy; great-grandchildren, Dalton Monts, Desiree Monts, Katlyn Lominack, Ceirsten McClain, Hannah Shealy, Carter McClain, Claire McClain, Zoe Grace Monts and Jaxson Shealy, “best friend” Horace Sease and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William E. Hunnicutt and sisters, Amelda Lowery Starnes, Virginia Dale Sanders, Ida “Jackie” Vallery and Harriett Nell Hunnicutt.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell and Rev. Jerry McCall. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home and other times will be at the homes of her daughters, Cathy Shealy, 3424 SC Hwy 202, Pomaria and Debra Monts, 489 Shrine Club Road, Newberry. Active pallbearers will be Jamie Monts, Robbie Monts, Brandon Shealy, Dalton Monts, Tommy Meeks, Chase Minick and Kevin Willard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donald and Linda Long, Johnnie and Brandie Wix, Judy Moore, Sandy Sligh, Virginia Gray, Jean McCall, Kenny Lowrey and Randy Lowrey.
