Mrs. Sadie Schumpert Elrod, 81, of Newberry, died peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Springfield Place surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 26, 1932, in Newberry, the daughter of the late Homer Elisha and Carrie Ethel Adams Schumpert. She worked most of her life in the Newberry Textile Mills and retired from the Newberry County Schools as a food service worker. She loved her Lord, her family, cooking, working crossword puzzles and reading. Mrs. Elrod was a member of College Street Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wilton R. Elrod, Jr.; a son, Timothy Robert (Linda) Elrod of Gilbert; daughters, Vicky E. (Larry) Kyzer of Orangeburg, Cheryl L. Elrod of Lexington and Dina E. (Bill) Mangum of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Misti K. Jurecki of Charleston, Carrie DeeAnn and Joshua A. Elrod of Lexington, Brian J. (Lori) Elrod of Lexington and Lindsay E. (Randy) Arant of Gilbert, Kurtlin M. (Ayzia) Taylor of Lugoff, Zachary T. (Shayla) Taylor and Ashton M. Taylor of Columbia; eight great-grandchildren, Gabe and Caleb Jurecki of Charleston, Elliott and Eva Elrod and Ryder and AnnMaesyn Arant all of Gilbert and Ainzley and McKenna Taylor of Lugoff; a sister, Helen S. Miller of Newberry, brothers, Bill (Betty) Schumpert of Newberry and Roy (Mary) Schumpert of Newport News, VA; sisters-in-law, Pansy E. Perkins of Newberry and Joan E. Ward of Winterpark, FL. Mrs. Elrod was predeceased by an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Chad Ashby. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to College Street Baptist Church, 3240 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the charity of ones choice.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Adams, Kent Nichols, Earl Leitzsey, Brian Elrod, Kurtlin Taylor, Zachary Taylor and Randy Arant.

The family would like to thank our BlueRidge Hospice family for all the love and support given to us during this time. We love you all.
