Emmie Venira “Sal” Cochcroft Welborn, 94, of Newberry, died Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at White Oak Manor.

Born on June 10, 1927, in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Connie Maddox McConnell. Mrs. Welborn was a seamstress for Damon International for many years and later retired from housekeeping at Newberry College. She had a great love for sewing and was a excellent cook. She taught Sunday School for around 40 years at Hunt Memorial Baptist Church and Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Welborn is survived by sons, Larry (Nancy) Cochcroft of Lexington and Bart (Kim) Cochcroft of Batesburg-Leesville; a daughter, Sheryl (Ron) Cromer of Newberry; step-sons, Jim Welborn, Bill Welborn and Eddie Welborn; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was twice married, first to the late Arthur Franklin Cochcroft, Sr. and secondly, to the late Joe Welborn. She was also predeceased by sons, Arthur Franklin Cochcroft, Jr. and Randall Craig Cochcroft and brothers, John McConnell and Harris McConnell.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, August 20, 2021, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ken Smith. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Henry Brooks, Johnny Hayes, Buddy McConnell, Joe McConnell, Ronnie Cochcroft and Douglas Cochcroft.

Due to COVID 19 everyone is reminded of social distancing and masks are encouraged.
