Savannah Shaw Sumner, 98, of Newberry, widow of Marion Jefferson “Sonney” Sumner, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at her residence.
Born on December 31, 1918, in Buffalo, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Lily Vassey Shaw. She was retired from Kendall Company, Oakland Mill and was a member of the Newberry Church of God. Mrs. Sumner was a loving mother, grandmother who was always a hard worker.
She is survived by a son, James “Pop” (Pam) Sumner; daughters, Lily Mae Sample and Vivian (Ray) Long; sons-in-law, Robert Hamilton and Terry Wise; eight grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and forty great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughters, Ruth Hamilton and Judy Wise, a son-in-law, John Sample and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Randall Messick. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
