Shirley D. Mitchell

Shirley D. Mitchell, 81, of Newberry went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on October 16, 1935 in Chester to the late William and Beatrice Cook Dillashaw. She was retired from the Newberry County School District as a lunchroom cook. After retirement she continued working with several local families in caring for their elderly family members. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a son, Marty (Paula) Frick of Little Mountain; step-daughters, Pamela Woodward of Mt. Croghan and Susan Hendrix of Lancaster, two step-sons, Butch Hendrix and Dale Hendrix. She is also survived by five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins including a special nephew, Wesley Dillashaw. Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by husbands, Carroll Frick, Henry Hendrix, Richard Morris and Calvin Mitchell, a sister, Betty D. Richardson and a brother, Gerald Glenn “Jerry” Dillashaw, Sr.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 8, 2017, at Freedom Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, PO Box 1106, Newberry, SC 29108 or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Preschool, PO Box 33, Little Mountain, SC 29075.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home, Tri County Hospice and her special friend and caregiver, Annie Mitchell, for their excellent care and support during her illness.
