Sonja Richardson

Sonja Marie Richardson, 66, died Monday, October 31, 2022, at White Oak Manor.

Born on May 31, 1956, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Melvin H. and Vanessa Martin Richardson. Sonja was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and had been served for many years by the Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs.

Sonja was always the happiest when she had a hamburger and a Diet Pepsi and a bag of workbooks from Dollar General.

She loved her family and her family loved her. Following the death of her parents her siblings and in-laws were truly devoted to caring for her which they did until her death.

She is survived by a sister, Judy (Johnny) Finley of North Augusta; brothers, Jerry M. Richardson and Rick (Nancy) Richardson both of Prosperity and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randall Derrick. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:30 – 2:30 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs or the Ruth Pugh Foundation at PO Box 856, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Brent Richardson, Clint Shealy, Don Richardson, Wally Richardson, Troy Respass, Tim Bell and John Finley, Jr..
