Sophie Long

Mrs. Sophie Way Long, 91, wife of David H. Long, Sr., died Saturday, December 24, 2011.

Born in Newberry County on July 7, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Powell E. Way, Sr., and Brooksie Dennis Way. Mrs. Long was employed with the V12s and as a secretary at Newberry College. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping with her husband in the mountains of North Carolina.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, David H. Long, Jr., and his wife Sudie, of Lexington; a daughter, Mary Anna Summer, and her husband Joe, of Charlotte, NC; and two granddaughters, Brittany A. Long of Columbia and Rebecca Summer of Hudson, NC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Way and Powell E. Way, Jr.; and a grandson, Billy Summer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel with burial following in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund, Post Office Box 67, Newberry, SC, 29108.
