Susan Leitzsey

Susan Rowe Ringer Leitzsey, 76, of Newberry, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Newberry Health.

Born on November 5, 1948, in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late James D. And Mozelle Rowe. Susan was a long-time employee of Baptist Medical Center (Prisma Health Baptist) where she worked in the Cancer Institute, she also worked at the Lowman Home where she was the assistant director of nursing and later retired as a hospice nurse.

She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church where she was the choir director for a number of years and was a member of the Willie Berley Circle.

Susan is survived by her husband, Charles Leitzsey; a son, Brett Ringer of Prosperity; a daughter, Yvette (Gary) VanAmerongen of Irmo; step-son, Chuck (Melody) Leitzsey of Pomaria; step-daughters, Tina Leitzsey of Pomaria, Nan Spicer of Newberry, Lorie (Jeff) Wicker of Pomaria and Tomi La Chance of Union ; sisters, Louise Hood of Ridgeway and Darlene (Don) Layton of Newberry; brothers, Rudy (Debra) Rowe of Prosperity, Thomas (Donna) Rowe of Blythewood and Paul (Kelsey) Rowe of Newberry; grandchildren, Garrit (Sylvianne) VanAmerongen, Bryce (Maddie) VanAmerongen, Kari (Kyle) Jones, Kylie Ringer and Madison Ringer and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Corrine Mack, Patsy Lindler, Jean Billiott, Libby Duncan, Candy Busby, Earl Rowe, Barry Hood and Dean Rowe.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church by the Rev. Clayton Tovo. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 – 3:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be her nephews.
