Susanne McCutcheon Alewine, 71, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Springfield Place.
Born on December 3, 1944, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Fleetwood “Shotsie” and Lucille Johnson McCutcheon. She was a graduate of Newberry College. She was the first female probation officer in Newberry County, but her true love was education from starting her own pre-school with a friend to teaching in the public schools. A profession she enjoyed, until forced to retire due to multiple sclerosis. She touched and molded many young lives in Newberry County. Mrs. Alewine was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church and the Newberry Chapter of the Jasper DAR.
She leaves behind her devoted and loving husband of 48 years, Jimmy Alewine; daughters, Charlotte (Mr. Jay) Sheely of Little Mountain and Leanne (Dr. Mark) Davis of Newberry; beloved granddaughters, Hannah and Harrison Sheely of Little Mountain; four step-grandchildren and their families; a sister, Lillian Bouknight of Newberry; special cousins, Ricky (Judy) McCutcheon of Newberry and Marlene McCutcheon of Melrose, MA; nieces and nephews, English Hawkins, Missy Burnett, Michael Bouknight, Mel Bouknight, Jamie McCutcheon, Heath McCutcheon and Casey Wilson and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, June 9, 2016, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10167.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Bouknight, Jimmy Leitzsey, Scott Burnett, Tad Abraham, Craig Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Newberry Chapter of the Jasper DAR, Staff of Springfield Place, Tony Hawkins, Amy Hawkins, Courtney Jotti, Jessica Longshore and Holly Yarbourgh.
