Susie Barnette

Susie Quattlebaum Barnette, 96, formerly of Prosperity, widow of William Henry Barnette, died Sunday, December 1, 2024 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on September 16, 1928 in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Hubert Joseph and Caroline Sease Quattlebaum. She retired from the South Carolina Pardon and Parole Board and was a member of Wightman Methodist Church. Susie loved animals and loved traveling with her husband, Henry. 

She is survived by her children, Tina (David) Hatch, Mickey Waters, and Dale Barnett; grandchildren, Isabella Perez, Savannah Perez, Robin Hatch, Bobby (Leanne) Waters, Brad (Melodie) Waters, and Rhonda Smith; great-grandchildren, Brett Waters, Loren (Will) Cook, Allie Waters, Lillie Waters, and Mollie Waters; great-great-grandchildren, Raine and Ryder Cook; a niece, Susan Gaydos (Steve) Alleman; nephew, Christopher Gaydos; and great-nephews, Noah Gaydos and Mason Alleman. 

She was predeceased by her sister, Kathryn Christine Gaydos and by a son-in-law, James Waters. 

Memorial services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Counts. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Newberry County Animal Shelter, Volunteer Network, PO Box 581, Newberry, SC 29108. 

The family would like to thank the staff of J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home for their love and care for Susie.
