Suzanne Mayer

Suzanne Sykes Mayer, 77, of Newberry, died Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 29, 1945, in Burlington, NC, she was the daughter of the late James and Vera Vines Sykes. She was a graduate of Lander College and a former school teacher. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Mayer was a faithful member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church where she played the organ for many years. She was a member of the Esther Circle, the Smyrna Choir and the Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Mayer enjoyed sewing and making greeting cards.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Lee Mayer; a daughter, Leanne Waters (Bobby); son, Scott Mayer (Kitty); grandchildren, Loren Cook (Will), Brett Waters, Grace Mayer and Micah Mayer and great-grandchildren, Raine and Asher.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Pastor Scott Hill. The family will greet family and friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Smyrna Building Fund, 32 Smyrna Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Guerry Mayer, Ricky Richardson, Nathan Mayer, Bob Bannister, Neel Boozer and George Kinard.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Stephen Madden, the Newberry Infusion Center, and Newberry Internal Medical for their support and care.
