Thomas Bumgardner

Thomas Bumgardner Sr., 80, of Whitmire, died Friday, August 10, 2012, at his residence.

Born on August 28, 1931, in Gaffney, he was a son of the late Robert and Marie Blanchard Bumgardner. He retired after 30 years in law enforcement having retired as the assistant police chief for the Town of Whitmire.

He is survived by his wife, Leo Wallen Bumgardner; son, Thomas (Donna) Bumgardner, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a daughter, Leonia B. (Hazel) Hawkins of Prosperity; grandchildren, Susan B. Paul-Hus, Cale Hawkins, Tres Bumgardner, Wendy H. Johnson, Dena H. Pollard, Christin Bumgardner and Abigail Bumgardner and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Bumgardner was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ann B. Lawson and a sister, Beatrice Upchurch.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 13, 2012, at Bethesda Baptist Church by the Rev. Todd Johnson. Memorials may be made to All Grace Hospice, 2562 Kinard Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or Bethesda Baptist Church, 1309 Coleman Avenue, Whitmire, SC 29178.
