Thomas "Tom" McAlister

Thomas Henry “Tom” McAlister, Sr., 81, of Kinards, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Anmed Medical Center in Anderson.

Born on May 19, 1942, in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Ernest and Lura Hammond McAlister.  He was the owner of McAlister Paint Contractor.  Tom loved the outdoors especially his many fishing adventures. Over the years he also enjoyed restoring old cars.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Bowers McAlister; sons, Thomas “Tom” McAlister, Jr. of Anderson, Gary McAlister (Arlene Simmons), Tayten McAlister and Tyler Mills (Chelsey) all of Newberry; a sister, Mildred Umphrey of Savannah, TN; a brother, Melvin McAlister of Belton; his dear friend, Ray Ruonavaara; number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by sons, Wayne McAlister and Danny McAlister, a daughter, Linda Clinkscales; brothers, Willie McAlister, James McAlister, Adger McAlister, Jerry Wayne “Butch” McAlister, and Alvin McAlister and sisters, Mae Poole and Ida Campbell.

The family will receive friends at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
