Tony Evans Rawls, 69, of Prosperity, died Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on May 20, 1952, in Newberry, he was a son of the late McDonald and Vennie Graham Rawls. He served in the South Carolina National Guard and worked for Carolina Eastman for 33 years. He later worked at Komatsu and for the Newberry County School District as a bus driver. Mr. Rawls was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church where he was in the choir and a member of the Lutheran Men. He was a member of the Prosperity Fire Department, Newberry County Hazemat Team, Prosperity Wildlife and the Chapin Ruritan. He was former member of the Prosperity Rescue Squad.
Mr. Rawls is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gay Amick Rawls; a son, Neal Jacob Rawls of Prosperity; a daughter, Amy Rawls (Greg) Dorroh of Prosperity; grandchildren, Dalton (Evon) Barbare, Ava Rawls and Brandon (Chelby) Stroud; a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Conyers and sisters-in-law, Ethel Rawls, Martha Hallbick, Ella Margaret Rawls and Ann Bedenbaugh. He was predeceased by siblings, Daphene Aull, Sadie Evelyn Rawls, Bobby Rawls, Donald Rawls and Sammy Rawls and a brother-in-law, Manley Bedenbaugh.
Visitation will be Friday, July 2, 2021, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Macedonia Lutheran Church Lakeside Pavilion by the Rev. Terry Hundley. Memorials may be made to Macedonia Lutheran Church, 49 Macedonia Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127 or to the charity of ones choice.
