Troy Vernon Walling, 85, of Newbery, died, June 16, 2013 at his residence.

Born on January 11, 1928, in Vian Oklahoma, he was a son of the late John Lindsey and Lana Irene Webb Walling. He was a World War II Navy veteran and later, served in the Navy Reserves. Mr. Walling then served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1950. He was the former owner of Troy Shell Station in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife of 64 ½ years, Christine Wicker Walling; sons, Lindsey Walling of Prosperity and Chris Walling of Newberry; a daughter, Tracey (Vernon) Corley of Newberry; grandchildren, Chelsie, Casey, and Christopher Walling, Brent, David, and Daniel Corley all of Newberry, and Brandon (Stephanie) Corley serving in Afghanistan. He was predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters.

Services will be private. The family suggests that those desiring may make memorials to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Restoration Fund, c/o First Community Bank, P.O. Box 417 Newberry, SC 29108.
