Valarie Robinson Astwood, 69, of Newberry, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, succumbing to her valiant battle against cancer.
The eldest daughter of Ervin and Erma Robinson, she was born in Waterville, Maine on May 4, 1945. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Philip Astwood, of Newberry, her daughter Heather and son-in-law Greg Kemp of Germantown, MD, her son Owen and daughter-in-law Holly Astwood, of Irmo and two beautiful granddaughters, Isabel and Madelyn Astwood. She is also survived by her mother, Erma Robinson, of Vassalboro, Maine, and her sisters, Sherry Cennamo and her husband Ralph of Vassalboro and Robin Robinson of Beaufort, SC. She is predeceased by her father, Ervin Robinson of Maine. She will be sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Maine.
Valarie graduated in 1967 from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she met and married Phil. She used her creative talents to pursue careers in radio, photography, and a gift basket business, and her hobbies included gardening, collecting, eBay shopping, harvesting her pecans, listening to NPR and loving her many rescued cats.
A private service is being held by the family.
