Vera Mae Kinard Shealy, 91, of Prosperity, widow of Paul Edward Shealy, entered the Church Triumphant August 29, 2016.
Born on April 3, 1925 in Prosperity, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Ila Kinard and Bessie Katherine Graham Kinard. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pomaria, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of The Lunch Bunch, The Ladies Bible Class, and loved making Chrismon Ornaments for the Chrismon tree.
Vera worked at Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio during World War II, on the aircraft engine assembly line. Upon returning home, she became a homemaker and worked on the family farm. Known for her love of family, travel, crafting, great stories of the good old days, and an always present smile, Vera will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her son, Stanley (Suzanne) Edward Shealy; two granddaughters, Steffanie (Michael) Shealy Shinn and Julie (Toby) Shealy Smith; great grandchildren, Jonathon and Jordan Shinn, Emma, Rachel, Rhett, and Grant Smith; and great great grandson, Bentley Shinn; two sisters, Christine Turner and Lela Suber; nieces and nephews, and former daughter-in-law Judy Sebesta. In addition to her husband of 70 years, Paul Edward Shealy, Mrs. Shealy was predeceased by her brothers William Perry Kinard and Elbert Kinard. A special heart felt thank you to her caregiver Ebbie King, and Tri County Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 1, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Bus Fund, since Vera was always one of the first to sign up for a church trip; or to the Pomaria Rescue Squad.
Active pall bearers will be Toby Smith, Michael Shinn, Michael Taylor, Brett Taylor, Derrill Taylor, Eddie Koon, and Kenneth Richardson.
Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Pomaria Rescue Squad.
