Virgil Buchanan

Virgil L. Buchanan, 66, of Kinards, died on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at White Oak Manor.

Born in Sylva, N.C., he was a son of the late Thomas and Louise Melton Buchanan.

Virgil was employed for over 40 years by Champion International/International Paper and the Silverstreet Chip Mill until his retirement. He was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Men in Mission.

Virgil leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Kathy Shealy Buchanan; his son, Thad Buchanan; two brothers, Willie (Robin) Buchanan of Prosperity and Eugene Buchanan of Kinards; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Virgil was predeceased by his brother, Eddy Buchanan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. The committal service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 16, 2022 at  Little River-Dominick Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Active pall bearers will be David Guy, Reid Guy, Butch Price, Lee Foster, Mike Brehmer, Joey Kitchen, Harold Hunter, Tommy Brewington, and Keith Owens.

Memorials may be made to Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1609 Milligan Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Ridge Road House, 1810 Ridge Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
