Virginia “Jenny” Jenkins Carlisle of Newberry, widow of Edward “Ned” Brown Carlisle, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at her home.
Born in Pelzer, she was the only daughter of the late Jack and Elsie Dickson Jenkins. Mrs. Carlisle operated Carlisle Gift Shop for a number of years. She and Ned were active in Aveleigh Presbyterian Church until Ned’s health decline. During her faithful years of service she served as church historian, served on the worship committee for 22 years and was chairwoman of Circle 3. She was the 2009 Honorary Life Member Award recipient.
As a young girl family trips with her aunts, uncles and cousins to the beach were very special. She often reflected on the joyous times they had of being in the kitchen on those trips where they cooked, talked and laughed.
Jenny and Ned enjoyed going to hear Christian speakers and were involved with various Christian groups in the community.
She enjoyed traveling and while on a trip to Jerusalem one of her highlights of life was being baptized in the Jordan River.
Mrs. Carlisle is survived by her children, Chris and Marianne Carlisle, Tim and Mary Carlisle and Suzanne and Joey Vick; grandchildren, Sarah Carlisle, Ann-Marie Carlisle, Ned Vick, Joshua Carlisle, Jennifer (Jonathon) Brunson, Valerie Vick and Rachel Vick; great-grandchildren, Carter Carlisle, Lauren Brunson, Gage Ellis and Lilly Brunson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. Jason Edwards. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Dean Brown,, Joey Kitchens, Alex Harold, Jonathon Brunson, Junior Harrington and Kitt Kunkle.
