William Hoyt Ringer, 70, of Pomaria, died Thursday, November 21, 2013, at his residence.

Born on May 23, 1943, in Pomaria, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Ringer and Ellen Caldwell Ringer Mills. Mr. Ringer retired from the S.C. Tax Commission and following retirement worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Green Acres Construction and Wickers Garage. He also in retirement enjoyed restoring a Mustang for his grandson, Christian. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Chapel by the River. He was a charter member of the Pomaria Fire Department where he served for close to 50 years. He was always willing to help anyone that he could in any way that he could.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Long Ringer; a daughter, Pamela Ringer (Michael) Shroup; a brother, Richard (Anne) Ringer; grandchildren, Christian and Lanea Shroup, an “adopted grandson, Grant Varnadore; his mother-in-law, Lessie K. Long; sisters-in-law, Nancy L. (Jimmy) Lindler and Janet L. (J.L.) Lindler and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by the Rev. Art Hallman and Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Tri County Hospice, 13795 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (Papaw). His family was the most important thing to him. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his shop and teaching as much about life as he could to Christian, Lanea and Grant.

We have shared lots of special trips and memories. He will truly missed by his family, neighbors, and friends. We love you and will see you again.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Atkinson, Gerald Bedenbaugh, Keith Ringer, Frank Shealy, Sully Sullivan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Carroll Pinner, members of the Chapel by the River and Sandy, Sheila, Aileen and Melissa of Tri-County Hospice.
