Wade Shirey

Glenn Wade Shirey, 64, of Newberry, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the Dorn VA Medical Center.

Born on February 12, 1947, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Glenmore and Gwendolyn Collie Shirey. He was retired from Bulldog Erectors and a member of Queens Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Shirey was a US Navy veteran where he was a narcotics agent and was a Sergeant-at-Arms of the ABRCAA.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Harmon Shirey; sons, Robert Glenmore “Bob” Shirey of Clinton and Charles Tracey (Connie) Shirey of Columbia; a brother, Glenn Shirey of Saluda; sisters, Sandra Roach and Thelma Howdeshell both of Columbia, Carolyn Crow and Ella Mae Potter both of Greenwood and Jackie Beasley; grandchildren, Kayla (Jason) Koon, Cayce Shirey, Billye Shirey, Blake Shirey, and Carley Shirey and a great-granddaughter, Lila Grace Koon.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. David A. Torrey and Dr. Daniel Cooper. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
