Walter L. Samuel, 92, of Newberry, died Monday, August 26, 2013, at Palmetto Health Richland.
Born on June 8, 1921 in Salem, NJ, he was the son of the late Alfred Leon and Harriett Garwood Diamond Samuel. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church. Mr. Samuel was the former owner of Central Park Hardware in New Jersey and Chauncey's Party Shop in Irmo and volunteered at Boy's Farm of Newberry.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Webster Samuel; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Michael and Priscilla Samuel of Imro; a sister, Cornelia Cates of Connecticut; grandchildren, Benjamin Lee Samuel and Erin Forensic; step-grandchildren, John David Martin and Dawn Renee Bickley and great-grandchildren, Caleb Forensic and Jeremy Lee Samuel. He was predeceased by a son, Alfred Lee Samuel.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2013 at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Mitchell VanMetre. Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Boy's Farm, PO Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108.
