Walter Waddy Nichols, Sr., 76, of Newberry, died July 4, 2009 at Generations of Chapin.
Born in Prosperity on October 18, 1932, Mr. Nichols was the son of the late Andrew E. (Sammy) and Josie Caughman Nichols. He was a graduate of Newberry College and retired from the Newberry County School District.He taught at the Newberry Career Center as an Agricultural Mechanics Instructor after over 25 years of employment in tractor and small engine sales and repair. He was an active member of Epting Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on various church committees. He was a member of the Silverstreet Young Farmers, a Board Member for Farmers Mutual, and a Past President of the Hartford Community Club.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Culclasure Nichols; a son, Walter Waddy (Nick) Nichols, Jr. of Newberry; a daughter, Susie Nichols Berry of Newberry; and a grandson, Brian C. Berry of Newberry. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia N. Huffststler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Epting Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Inman and the Rev. Tony Rowell. Entombment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The family suggests that those desiring may make memorials to Epting Memorial United Methodist Church General Fund or Mission Fund, 1401 Milligan Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Huffstetler, Kenny Huffstetler, Wayne Bouknight, Woodrow Lathrop, Glenn Hamm, Bobby Ray Nichols. Clyde Taylor, and Brian Berry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Epting Memorial United Methodist Church Men’s Club and Men’s Sunday School Class.
