Waneta DeFreest

Waneta Wade DeFreest, 89, widow of Harold M. DeFreest, formerly of Chappells, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Laurel Bay in Greenville.

Born on October 26, 1921, in Hancock, VT, she was a daughter of the late Pearlie and Bertha Manning Wade. She was retired from Whitten Center and was a former member of Sharon Methodist Church in Kinards.

She is survived by two daughters, Paulyn Bridwell of Clinton and Anita Strickland of Greenville; sisters, Thelma Putman of VT and Leona Boprey of FL; 9 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William Gordon DeFreest, and a brother, Rudolph Wade.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 13, 2011 in Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday at the graveside. Memorials may be made to the Gantt District Fire Department, 1331 Whitehorse Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
